Compose-A-Thon Playshop

January 18, 2003, 10:00am to 3:00pm United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Airport Road

CHMTA Special Project Directors, Pamela St. John and Julie Harris, will be hosting their annual Compose-A-Thon on January 18, 2003 for interested music students of all levels (teachers are also welcome to participate). All participants will collaborate in the co-creation of a new composition using their voices, their instruments, or available percussion. Students who bring in their own original works will have the opportunity to perform them in our afternoon composition recital, as well as receive a copy of this year's Compose-A-Thon book of student recital pieces.

The emphasis is on the joy of creating music and the inspiration that comes from sharing our works! Students will meet at the United Church of Chapel Hill on 1321 Airport Road at 10:00 AM Saturday morning. Please bring your instruments, if other than piano. We will divide into groups to work with a simple theme, playing with the ideas of developing rhythm, melody, harmony, texture and form. Students will need a bag lunch for the 11:30 break. Both groups will meet at 12:30pm to collaborate on a performance piece based on the morning's explorations. Parents (and families) are invited to return for the Grand Concert at 2:00pm of the collaborative and individual original works! The day's activities will conclude at around 3:00pm.

There is a registration fee ($5 for students of CHMTA members, $10 for nonmembers) to help cover the rental charge. Due date for receipt of registration: December 15, 2002.
